About Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (UN, 1987).
Education is a key not only for individual success, but also for sustainable development.  We need to ensure achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4.7 so that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development  through:

  • Education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, and gender equality
  • Promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, and global citizenship
  • Appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture's contribution to sustainable development
